Consumer goods players rope in Bollywood biggies for endorsements - Abhishek to endorse Videocon d2h products, Akshay Kumar LG Flat screen TV

Consumer goods makers have now woken up to star power, with DTH players showing the way. While Dish TV is being endorsed by Shah Rukh Khan, Aamir Khan and Gul Panag have been the face for Tata Sky. Bollywood Jodi Saif Ali Khan and Kareena Kapoor have been the faces for Airtel’s DTH services. Joining these stars, Abhishek Bachchan is now set to endorse Videocon’s DTH venture, Videocon d2h.
Videocon d2h, which launched its operations in the second quarter of 2009, also unveiled an array of the satellite product range consisting of Satellite LCDs, Satellite Colour Televisions, Satellite DVDs and Satellite Box offering direct-to-home services, while announcing Bachchan Jr as the brand ambassador.
Speaking about Abhishek Bachchan as the brand ambassador for Videocon d2h, Anil Khera, CEO, Bharat Business Channel Ltd. (BBCL) commented, “Abhishek makes a perfect match with the Videocon d2h brand attributes of innovation and high-quality entertainment. As our brand’s face, he will be instrumental in communicating the benefits to consumers across the country. It is our privilege to be associated with an actor of his calibre and excellent standing in the entertainment industry.”
Explaining the company’s product offering, Khera said, “We expect our value added products and services to provide an unparallel viewing experience backed by supreme technological innovation for the consumers.”
Abhishek Bachchan will feature across all Videocon d2h brand and product communication including advertisements on TV, Print, Outdoor, Radio and all BTL media like POS & collaterals.
Currently Videocon d2h is present across the length and breadth of India through a dealer and distributor base of around 40,000, present across the country.
And it’s just not DTH. White goods makers such as LG have also realised the potential of star power and have roped in Akshay Kumar as its brand ambassador for LG Flat Play Display (FPD) segment.
“We are aiming to be No.1 in Flat Panel TV Market with a targeted Market share of 33 per cent in 2010. To achieve this, we are coming up with whole new series of Full LED LCD TV’s. The new line up is a perfect combination of superb design, latest technology and superior performance. We have chosen Akshay as our brand ambassador for LG FPDs because he personifies the LG brand. He is a big style icon, gizmo and action freak,” said Moon B Shin, managing director LGEIL after the announcement.
Akshay will soon be seen promoting the new LED range from the LG stable on all National multi-mediums. An aggressive 360 degree marketing and advertising campaign has been devised to ensure optimum visibility and lucid messaging to the consumer. The advertisements created are a brand endorsement with a creative storyline in a visually impactful ambience. LG has planned a tactful multi-media campaign strategically covering all media vehicles like print, television, radio, outdoor, cinema and internet.
